Byron Bay Fishing

The best times to fish from the beaches are early morning and late afternoon, one hour before high tide to one hour after high tide. Equipment can be hired from local fishing tackle shops at very reasonable rates.
Bait is available on the beach in the form of 'pippies' (rather like clams). You can find pippies buried in the sand if you look closely for little bubbles. Other baits can be purchased at tackle shops and at most motor garages.
Rock fishing is an option at the Cape Byron Headland and at the south end of Broken Head Beach. Rock fishing is great fun but you need to be very careful. Large waves can surprise you and create dangerous conditions. Always let someone know that you intend to go rock fishing and let them know the intended time of your return.
In keeping with State Law, a fishing permit is required by anyone who goes fishing. These are available at local fishing tackle shops.

Byron Professional Charters want you to have the ultimate fishing experience. Aboard a luxurious catamaran, be guided by an experienced crew aiming for quality rather than quantity.
Specialising in slow trolling, they track down larger fish to ensure that you return to shore with a prize mackerel, kingfish, snapper, trevally or tuna. Whatever your level of fishing experience, the crew will ensure a safe, enjoyable day with personalised service.
Whale watching tours are available in season, and private charters and 'Simply Seafood' licensed river cruises are also available.
